A well-developed transport system is needed for the economic and social functioning of an area, being a municipality, a region, a country or a continent. Without communication, without transport, whether on foot, by car, by truck or by plane, there will be no economic and social life; life will come to a stand-still.
Also the development of the road infrastructure network within and between regions is of vital importance to achieve economic growth. Often, for regions with a peripheral location there are considerable arrears in this area. Clearly, the quality of the road infrastructure in a region and the region’s economic development are closely interrelated.
In particular many countries in transition, will be expected to make substantial financial investments towards improving the road network in the coming decade.
