8 - Roads and Regional Development

Mainstreaming economy and environment in road planning

A well-functioning road network is a precondition for economic development. At the same time, road network development can place a heavy burden on the environment. Socio-economic and environmental considerations are sometimes not properly incorporated in the preparation phase of road infrastructure projects, at least no in a balanced, tailored and supported way. There is an obvious need for knowledge and experiences on how to mainstream these aspects in the project preparation process.

The activity window 8, entitled “Roads and Regional Development” puts emphasis on integrated, sustainable and participatory project preparation.
